Emigrant Wilderness Retreat Update

Hello everyone,

I hope that you all are doing well these days. I’ve just returned from the Sierra, scouting the route for our wilderness retreat, and wanted to post a few updates about the course.

* First of all, the location is quite beautiful and I’m certainly looking forward to being out on this land together with you all. For a sneak peak, you can check out a few photos posted here.

* As of last week, the trip is filled to capacity (10 participants) with a couple of additional people on a waiting list. With the folks on the wait-list in mind, please let us know right away if for any reason you will not be able to attend the retreat. (For those who might be interested, I’m now in the planning stages for a December wilderness retreat in Southern California – details will be posted here on the website as they become available).

* In terms of our itinerary, more information will follow shortly, but here is an overview. We will be traveling in the Emigrant Wilderness, which is part of the Stanislaus National Forest and is located directly north of Yosemite National Park. Our elevation will range between approximately 6200 feet and 9200 feet. More about the wildernesss area information can be found at the following links:

* We will be meeting at 10am on Sunday, Sept. 4th at the Kennedy Meadows trailhead, which is approximately 3.5 - 4 hours driving time from the Bay Area.

* From Oakland, the basic directions are to take the following freeways: 580E to 205E to 99N to 120E to 108E. Continue on 108E (Sonora Pass Highway) for approximately 30 miles past Pinecrest to the turnoff (on the right) for Kennedy Meadows and follow that road for about 1 mile to the trailhead.

* Finally, here are a few words that Caiyloirch wanted to pass along to you all:

Dear Friends,
I wanted to send a few words of greeting to you whilst I have a few days back from the field. I look forward to meeting you all in the late Summer for time together on the land. It is a privilege for me to travel into the wilderness with others with the intention of listening more closely to life, both inwardly and outwardly.

I find myself at times deeply saddened and at times most grateful for the relationships we as a people have cultivated with the wider natural world. I look forward to the opportunity to support each other in how we hold this primal relationship, both as individuals and as a people. It will be a rich time.

In support of our time together I want to offer a few selected edited compilations that I have enjoyed that marry the contemplative inquiry and ecological understanding:

Dharma Gaia: A Harvest of Essays in Buddhism and Ecology

- Allan Hunt Badiner (Ed)

Dharma Rain

-Stephanie Kaza (Ed), Kenneth Kraft (Ed)

The Soul Unearthed : Celebrating Wildness and Spiritual Renewal Through Nature

- Cass Adams (Ed)

I wish you a fruitful end of rest of the Summer and thank you for supporting this work.
Caiyloirch Marques

P.S. If anyone wishes to bring some inspirational readings or poetry that would be most welcome.

Well, that’s all for the moment but we’ll be in touch soon with more information and a participant roster.
